“What people are saying about Prairie Radio.”

Thanks for the great article on weather formatics.... Very well written and something I plan on sharing with the airstaffs. Appreciate the work.

First, thanks for an excellent article.
Second, thanks for crystallizing my thoughts and for verifying what I’ve been trying to communicate to my airstaff for years.
Third, how do you feel about using the word “skies?” I hate to hear, “cloudy skies and 54” (degrees...I agree with you about temperature delivery. I hate to hear the word “degrees” in a forecast). When I hear a personality do this, I immediately ask him or her to step outside the building with me. I say, “Please look upward. What do you see?” They’ll reply, “The sky.” My next question is, “How many skies do you see?” They usually look at me like I’m an idiot as the say, “One.” I’ll then ask, “Then, why are we predicting cloudy or sunny SKIES, when there’s only one sky? So, let’s work on eliminating ’skies’ from the forecast at all.” With very few exceptions, it's worked so far. To a person, their reply is usually, “...I never really thought about it that way.” I guess my point is that we tend to repeat what we hear “weather professionals” say when it comes to delivering forecasts, and that to sound credible, we tend to mimic them. Penny for your thoughts. (And I won’t give you back any change.) Regards,

-Excellent point, Charlie!

Great article! When I hear talent/jocks/announcer use the word “degrees” in weather forecasts, it’s like fingernails on a chalkboard. And it’s not just small market guys, I hear it everywhere! Keep up the good work!

We gave away three cent stamps at the downtown post office.... We had a great response. The goal was simply to make peoples' mornings as they were walking into the post office and the downtown location was very busy.... We gave away about 400 stamps which cost us under $12.
